Description: Aggregates of masses, in irregular masses, or slightly subsquare, frequently with
angularities. Greyish-black or brown; streak black, with lustre of metal. Texture hard and
heavy, fracture uneven. Magnetic. Odour, earthy; tasteless.
Magnetitum (calcined) Calcine the clean Magnetitum as described under the method for
calcining and quenching (Appendix II D) to red thoroughly, quench with vinegar and grind
to coarse powder, using 30 kg of vinegar per 100 kg of Magnetitum.
Action: To subdue hyperactivity of the liver, to improve hearing and eyesight, to calm the
nerves, and to alleviate dyspnea.
Usage and dosage: 9-30 g, to be decocted before other ingredients.
Storage: Preserve in a dry place.

[性味归经]：咸，寒。归肝、心、肾经。
用法用量:煎服，9-30克，打碎先煎，若入丸、散剂，每次服用1-3克。脾胃虚弱者慎用。
[功效主治]：1,安神镇惊,平肝潜阳。用于阴虚阳亢所致的烦躁不宁,心悸,失眠,头晕目眩,头痛,癫痫等症。2,聪耳明目,用于肝肾阴虚所致的耳鸣耳聋,目昏等症。3,纳气平喘,用于肾不纳气的虚喘。
[现代研究]：本品主要为四氧化三铁，其中氧化铁为31%，三氧化二铁为69%。尚含锰、铝、铅、钛等。火煅醋淬后，主要含三氧化二铁及醋酸铁等。磁石有镇静，对缺铁性贫血有补血作用。

《本经》：“磁石，味辛寒。主周痹，风湿肢节中痛不可持物，洗洗酸消，除大热烦满，洗洗酸消，除大热烦满及耳聋，一名元石。生山谷。”
《别录》：“养肾脏，……小儿惊痫，炼水饮之。”
《本草从新》：“治恐怯怔忡，……明目，重镇阳气。”
《本草纲目》：“磁石法水，色黑而入肾，故治肾家诸病，而通耳明目。”
《本草求真》：“磁石能入肾镇阴，使阴气龙火不得上升，……昔徐之才《十剂篇》云：‘重可去怯，磁石铁粉之属是也。’故性则气浮，宜重剂以镇之。”
