HALLOYSITUM RUBRUM (赤石脂, Chishizhi) Red Halloysite Natural hydrated aluminum silicate [Al₄(Si₄O₁₀)(OH)₈·4H₂O]. The drug is collected and cleaned of foreign matter. Description Irregular massive aggregates or pieces. Pink, red, or purplish-red, often with alternating red and white streaks or patterns. Texture soft and easily broken. Fracture smooth with a waxy lustre. Highly hygroscopic. Odour clay-like. Taste bland, without a sandy sensation when chewed. Prepared Slices Processing Halloysitum Rubrum Remove foreign matter. Break into pieces or grind into powder before use. Halloysitum Rubrum (Calcined) Add vinegar to the fine powder. Mix thoroughly. Form into strips. Cut into sections. Dry. Calcine according to the method for open calcination (0213) until thoroughly red-hot. Break into pieces before use. Property and Flavor Warm; sweet, sour, and astringent. Meridian Tropism Large Intestine and Stomach meridians. Actions To astringe the intestines, stop bleeding, promote tissue regeneration, and facilitate wound healing. Indications Chronic diarrhea, chronic dysentery, bloody stool, excessive uterine bleeding, prolonged uterine spotting, and abnormal vaginal discharge. For external use: chronic non-healing sores and ulcers, and damp sores with purulent discharge. Administration and Dosage 9–12 g. Decoct first. For external use, grind into fine powder and apply an appropriate amount to the pars affecta (affected area). Precautions and Warnings Incompatible with Cinnamomi Cortex.
